Is e-Visa processing affected by weekends and public holidays?

Yes. Processing can be slower around weekends and Indian public holidays, so allow extra time and apply well before your travel date rather than at the last minute.

Can I enter India at any airport, seaport, or land border with an e-Visa?

No. e-Visa holders may enter only through designated ports: 34 designated airports (including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, and Goa) and designated seaports. At land borders, entry is restricted to the check posts of Raxaul, Rupaidiha, Darranga, and Jogbani, although you may exit from any authorised Indian Immigration Check Post.

How many entries do the e-Tourist visas allow, and how long can I stay?

The 30-day e-Tourist visa is valid for 30 days from your first arrival with double entry. The 1-year visa is valid for 365 days from the date the ETA is granted, and the 5-year visa for five years from grant, both with multiple entries. For the 1-year and 5-year visas, total stay in any calendar year must not exceed 180 days.

What is the difference between an e-Tourist visa and an e-Business visa?

The e-Tourist visa is for tourism, sightseeing, casual visits to friends or relatives, and short yoga programmes. The e-Business visa is for business activities such as meetings and trade; it is valid for 365 days from grant of the ETA with multiple entries, and continuous stay per visit must not exceed 180 days. Neither permits paid employment in India.

Which travellers need a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate?

Any foreigner arriving in India within 6 days of departure from a Yellow Fever endemic country must carry a valid original Yellow Fever vaccination certificate on arrival. Without it, you may be quarantined for 6 days.

Do I need to register with the FRRO if I stay a long time?

No registration is needed for stays of 180 days or less. If you stay continuously for more than 180 days, you must register with the concerned FRRO or FRO within two weeks after the 180-day period expires.

What is the e-Arrival Card?

The e-Arrival Card is a mandatory online arrival-information form — not a visa — that travellers complete within 72 hours before arriving in India. It is separate from your e-Visa.

Can I extend or convert my e-Visa?

No. The e-Visa is non-extendable and non-convertible, and it is not valid for Protected, Restricted, or Cantonment areas. If you need a different category or a longer stay, you must obtain the appropriate visa.

Do children and infants need their own e-Visa?

Yes. Every traveller, including each child and infant, must have a separate passport and a separate e-Visa application, and the passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival.
