Passport bio page
One colour copy of the bio page (the page carrying your photo and personal details) for each applicant.
- An ordinary passport — diplomatic, official and laissez-passer documents are not accepted.
- At least 6 months’ validity counted from your date of arrival.
- At least 2 blank pages for the immigration stamp.
- In colour, with the whole page in frame — all four corners visible, nothing cropped.
- Sharp and readable, including the two machine-readable lines along the bottom.
- No flash. Passport pages are laminated, and the flash puts a white patch across exactly the details that need to be read. Photograph the page in daylight instead.

Personal photo
One recent photo for each applicant, including infants and children — every traveller needs their own.
- File size over 100 KB.
- In colour, taken within the last 3 months.
- Full face, eyes open, looking straight at the camera.
- No glasses — including prescription lenses.
- No hats or headgear that covers the hair or hairline. Head coverings worn for religious reasons are accepted provided the full face stays visible.
- No shadows on the face or on the background.
- Do not photograph or scan the photo in your passport. It has to be a separate picture. A re-shot passport photo carries the print screen and the security overlay, and it is rejected on sight.
What gets an upload bounced
These are the faults we send back before an application ever reaches the government portal — each one costs you a day or more.
- Glare or a flash patch across the passport details.
- A corner or edge of the passport page cut off.
- Photo taken against a patterned wall, a curtain, or a coloured background.
- A shadow cast behind the head — stand a step further from the wall.
- A group photo or holiday snapshot cropped down to one face.
- Beauty filters and skin smoothing — automated checks detect them.
- A screenshot of a photo, rather than the photo file itself.
- One traveller’s files reused for another, or a child included on a parent’s page.
Sending your files
Upload both files in the application form — you can do it from a phone, and photographing the passport page with the phone camera is fine as long as it is flat, sharp and flash-free. If anything is unusable we email you within about 24 hours to re-upload, so use an address you check.
