Egypt's eVisa lets you skip the airport visa queue in Cairo and arrive with approval already in hand. The application is straightforward, but the single vs multiple entry choice trips up more travellers than anything else.
Single or multiple entry?
Both profiles allow stays of up to 30 days per entry. The difference is what happens when you leave:
- Single entry — one arrival. Once you exit Egypt, the visa is used, even if you were only there a day.
- Multiple entry — re-enter as often as your validity allows, 30 days at a time.
Choose multiple entry if your plans include any of these: a Nile cruise that docks in ports with shore excursions crossing borders, a side trip to Jordan (Petra is a popular add-on), or connecting flights that route you out and back into Egypt. When in doubt, multiple entry is the safer profile — a used single-entry visa cannot be revived.
Requirements
- Passport valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date
- A clear scan of the passport bio page
- A recent passport-style photo (photo spec here)
- Travel details: arrival flight and first accommodation
Processing time
Egypt quotes up to 6 business days. Most approvals arrive faster, but the authority regularly uses several days of that window — this is not a visa to leave until the last minute. Apply at least two weeks before travel; if you're inside that window, our urgent visa service moves your application to the front of our queue.
At the airport
Print your approved eVisa and carry it with your passport. Egyptian border officers still commonly ask for the paper copy, and airline check-in staff may want to see it before boarding. If anything goes wrong at check-in or on arrival, our airport problems guide covers the recovery steps.
