The India eVisa (electronic visa) lets eligible travellers apply online instead of visiting an embassy. This guide covers who can apply, what you need, and how long it takes.
What is the India eVisa?
The eVisa is an official electronic travel authorization issued by the Government of India. The most popular type is the e-Tourist Visa, available with one-month, one-year and five-year validity. It is linked to your passport, so you travel on the same passport you applied with.
Who can apply?
Passport holders of most countries are eligible for the e-Tourist Visa for tourism, visiting friends and family, or short yoga programmes. It is not valid for paid work, journalism, or long-term study.
What you need
- A passport valid for at least six months from arrival, with two blank pages.
- A recent passport-style photo.
- A scan of your passport bio page.
- A return or onward ticket and proof of funds may be requested.
Processing time and fees
Most e-Tourist Visa applications are processed within a few business days. Fees depend on the validity you choose and your nationality. We always show the government fee and our service fee separately so there are no surprises.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Names that don't match the passport exactly.
- Uploading a low-quality or cropped photo.
- Applying too close to departure — allow at least a week.
